About Diabetes Advocacy

What you need to know about us…

Here are a few things that you need to know about Diabetes Advocacy!

We have been working for people living with diabetes since 2003. We know that you are more than your carb to insulin ratios and your A1c. Diabetes management involves your physical, emotional, and financial health.

We understand that diabetes can leave you feeling powerless and out of control. That is why Diabetes Advocacy’s mission is to help you regain that control by sharing your options with you.

Knowing how to make your insulin work for you, understanding the questions to ask your diabetes team, and learning how to stop taking readings personally are just a few of the things we focus on to help you feel more empowered in your diabetes management.

Our goal is to bring you together with the information and the individuals who can help you to improve your overall health with diabetes.

before diabetes diagnosis

Diabetes is a demanding condition. The best way I have found to stay sane is to take things four hours at a time and celebrate every great blood sugar!

Barb Wagstaff
Barb

The driving force behind Diabetes Advocacy

Barb Wagstaff is the driving force behind Diabetes Advocacy. Her youngest son was diagnosed with Type 1 Diabetes when he was just two years old. Her desire to share information and offer support to individuals living with diabetes led her to making Diabetes Advocacy what it is today.

You can read their story below.

Type 1 Diagnosis

Barb was dubbed “the diabetes goddess” by friends who struggled to make their way through the world of readings, insulin, and all that encompassed life with diabetes.

She has been active in the diabetes community for the past 22 years. As the diabetes goddess, she understands the highs and lows of living with this disease.

Barb is dedicated to helping individuals living with diabetes live a balanced and full life.

Barb is not a doctor but she has played one in real life

While she has no formal medical training, Barb has a degree in Psychology and is a Certified Life Coach. Raising a child with type 1 diabetes has provided her with a sharp learning curve. In an attempt to give him the most normal life possible, Barb has spent years researching, learning, and meeting with experts and researchers in the world of type one diabetes care. Barb is well-connected throughout the worldwide diabetes community. She uses her knowledge and education to help other people living with diabetes throughout Canada and the world.
